Data Engineer ( SQL / AWS / Snowflake / Databricks ) 12 month contract $700-900 per day inc super Melbourne based hybrid role Australian Citizenship is required to be considered. Talent Insights is currently partnered with a government agency who are undergoing a huge transformation and moving to a more modernised data platform.
The Data Engineer will play an integral role in the development and enhancement of a data warehouse platform. This role involves updating data development documentation, conducting peer reviews of data designs and models, and collaborating with key business areas to develop and implement reports and analytics. The primary focus is to support business needs by addressing risks and identifying emerging trends.
Key Duties and Responsibilities for the Data Engineer include :
Data Delivery:
- Establish standards for peer review, data modelling, development, and release processes.
- Conduct knowledge-sharing sessions on best practices for data development, modelling, and release procedures.
- Manage the technical implementation of new data from analysis through to delivery (including design, data dictionaries, release steps, best practices, and review processes).
- Drive continuous improvement in delivery principles, coding standards, documentation, and conduct training sessions for the team.
- Prioritize and manage work items within the work queue.
- Analyze and define user requirements for development.
- Develop and maintain SQL-based analytical and ETL code.
- Optimize SQL code for optimal system performance.
- Create and maintain system documentation.
- Collaborate within a state-of-the-art, greenfield DevOps environment.
- Work closely with data consumers, database developers, testers, and IT support teams.
Experience and Skills required for the Data Engineer include:
Candidates should have a minimum of 4 years’ experience in similar roles and demonstrate competency in the following areas:
- Proven experience with two or more modern cloud data warehouse technologies (e.g., DataBricks, Snowflake, Teradata Vantage).
- Proficiency with an ETL Tool (e.g., Talend, DBT, or Matillion).
- Strong knowledge of Data Warehouse architecture and data modelling techniques.
- Proficient in SQL (essential), with experience in SAS (Base, EG), Python, R, or Java (preferred).
- Familiarity with DevOps processes and the use of DevOps tools.
- Advanced programming skills, including proficiency in supplementary languages like Python.
- Understanding of version control systems and best practices for their use.
- Competency with tools and software, including SAS and Excel.
- Ability to read and interpret data models and specifications.
- Tertiary qualifications in mathematics, statistics, computer science, or relevant professional experience (over 3 years).
